Golf Course Gets Firm
and Fast As Field Struggles At Fox Run
Eureka, Mo. – Fox Run Golf
Club played hard and fast in round two of the 2010 PGA Junior Series event in Eureka, Mo. As the wind picked up throughout the day,
players had to deal with faster greens and hard fairways.
The tournament features over 110 juniors from 13 different
states. This is the PGA Junior Series
forth stop out of nine events for the summer.
In the Girls’ 16-18 Division, round one leader, Shelby
Phillips of Gilbert, Ariz., shot a
8-over-par 80 for a two day total of 155.
She has a two stroke lead over Katie Purcell of Ames, Iowa.
“The golf course played much harder today and hitting
fairways was a big key,” said Phillips who was the 2009 PGA Junior Series
Player of the Year. “I hope to hit my
driver a little better tomorrow and win!”
Phillips was able to birdie the first hole of the day but
proceeded to have trouble with her swing the rest of the round. However, she played well enough, like all
mature golfers, to stay in the lead after round two.
The story was very similar in the Boys’ 16-18 Division. A majority of the players battled the golf
course to higher scores. Round one
leader Chase Hanna shot a 7-over-par 79 to still be in the lead by two
strokes.
His two day total is 149.
There is a three way tie for second place and eight players within five
strokes of the lead. With how this golf
course is playing, it is still anyone’s tournament.
For the Boys’ 13-15 Division, leaders were not able to find their strive on the golf course today, either. The round one leader Michael Sharp of Kendallville, Ind.,
remained in first place but shot a disappointing 8-over-par 80 for a two day
total of 154.
He has a one stroke lead over Alec Palen
of Rogersville, Mo., who also shot an 8-over-par 80.
In the Girls’ 13-15 Division, Cassie Wang’s eight stroke
lead after day one was cut to only two strokes.
The Kansas
native shot an 89 today for a two day total of 171.
Jordan Chael of Overland Park, Kan.,
shot an 83 today to climb within two strokes of Wang and have a good
opportunity to win the event. Her two
day total is 173.
The third and final round starts tomorrow morning with the
Boys’ 16-18 Division playing in the morning wave and the other three divisions
playing in the afternoon. The overall
Girls’ and Boys’ 16-18 winners will both receive exemptions into the 35th
PGA Junior Championship Aug. 2-5 in Fort
Wayne, Ind.
