Zech Roars From
Behind To Win At ArborLinks
Nebraska City, Neb. – At the final round of the 2010 PGA Junior Series
event at ArborLinks in Nebraska
City, Neb. Ryan Zech of Kearny, Mo.,
took home first place in the Boys’ 16-18 Division. The challenging golf course continued to be
the story as the scoring average for all four divisions were in the
eighties.
Zech has now won two out of the first three PGA Junior
Series events of the summer. He shot a
3-under-par 69 for a two day total of 1-over-par 145. He won by one stroke over Charlie Danielson
of Osceola, Wis.
Zech had three birdies on the day during his bogey free
round. With his win at ArborLinks he has now taken a commanding lead in the Boys’
16-18 Player of the Year point’s race.
Round one leader McKayla Anderson
of Fremont, Neb., made it known early in round two that
she wanted to win this tournament in the Girls’ 16-18 Division. She got off to a fast start with going
2-under-par on her first six holes.
However, she fell a little the rest of the round to finish
with a 1-over-par 73 for a two day total of 145. She still won by five strokes over Gianna Misenhelter of Overland Park, Kan.
“I hit a lot of greens in regulation today and made some
solid par putts on the final stretch to win,” said Anderson who also had a chip
in for birdie on the par-5 No. 10.
Anderson
played consistent and was never really challenged by the field all day. Her ability to compose herself and maintain
focus during the tournament could be said as the deciding factor in her
victory. Many of the girls were unable
to stay focus and allowed the golf course to over take them.
In the Boys’ 13-15 Division, Ryan Medhaug
of Veblen,
S.D. shot a 2-over-par 74 for a
two day total of 2-over-par 146 to win the division.
He was in the final pairing for his division and all three
players went back and forth throughout the round. However, Medhaug
remained calm throughout the round saying that hitting a lot of fairways was the
key to his victory.
“It was fun to play in the last group but I had to make sure
to remain focus on my game plan and not worry about the other two players,”
said Medhaug.
In the final Division of the tournament, Casey Danielson of Osceola, Wis.,
shot a two day total of 155 to win the Girls’ 13-15 Division.
Her distance off the tee was a big advantage during the
tournament.
The PGA Junior Series heads to a new location for the Series in Eureka, Mo.,
at Fox Run Golf Club starting on Tuesday June 22nd. That will be the forth stop out of nine for
the 2010 summer.
