Round Two Complete At
Stow Acres
Stow, Mass., - At the second round of the 2010 PGA Junior
Series event at Stow Acres Country Club in Stow, Mass., players faced a
continued challenge out on the golf course.
With speedy greens and an increase in the wind, players had to deal with
both the conditions of the course as well as the pressure of playing in a
national junior event.
In the Boys’ 16-18 Division, Tae Wan Lee of Howey In The Hills, Fla., remained in first
place after shooting a 5-over-par 77 for a two-day total of 5-over-par 149.
Lee’s round was highlighted by his ability to take advantage
of the par-5’s on the front nine with birdies on both
of them. He hopes to have a better
putting day in the final round in order to win the Boys’ 16-18 Division.
Lee has a one stroke advantage over Christopher Gentle of Lowell, Mass., and a
three stroke lead over Dj Tozier
of Clifton Park, N.Y., who shot the low round of the day in
the division with a 1-over-par 73.
Colton Wiggins of Indiana, Pa., remained in the
Boys’ 13-15 Division lead after firing a 4-over-par 76. His two day total is 6-over-par 150.
After birdie’s on his first three holes, he was looking to
go low but said he got ahead of himself and lost focus on taking it one shot at
a time.
He has a four stroke lead over Jon Malloy of Laconia, N.H.,
who has a two-day total of 154. This
division throughout the summer has been known for players coming from behind to
win on the final day. It will be
interesting to watch if Wiggins can stay consistent and take home the win.
Round one leader Juliet Vongphoumy
of Providence, R.I., continued her dominance in the Girls’
16-18 Division after shooting an even-par-72 for a two-day total of 147. Her 72 was the lowest round by anyone in the
tournament in round two.
She got off to a fast start with four birdies on her opening
nine-holes. She has a twelve stroke lead
over Brooke Beegle of Fortville, Ind.
Vongphoumy, who has already earned
a spot at the 35th Junior PGA Championship after winning the New
England PGA Section Junior Championship, is playing consistent and looks
unstoppable out on the course.
In the last Division, Danielle Fuss of Rochester, N.Y.,
took the first place lead after shooting the low round of the division in round
two. She shot a 6-over-par 78 for a
two-day total of 160.
She has a two stroke lead over round one leader Elizabeth DiVincentis of Durham,
Conn.
The final round starts tomorrow with all four divisions in
the morning starting at 7:30a.m. Two
exemptions into the 35th Junior PGA Championship held later this
summer in Fort Wayne, Ind., at Sycamore Hills Country Club will be
handed out tomorrow for the overall Girls’ winner and the Boys’ 16-18
winner.
The tournament features 90 juniors from nine different states
as well as Argentina and Italy. This is the seventh stop of the 2010 PGA
Junior Series schedule and our first time at Stow Acres Country Club.
