Nakatani and Furuya Punch Tickets to Miramont

Blythewood, S.C., - The final round of the 2014 PGA Junior Series event at Columbia Country Club saw plenty of action and exciting finishes. On a day when the wind played a pivotal role, low scores were at a premium.

Ryoto Furuya of Wesley Chapel, Florida, won the Boys 15-18 division, defeating Noah Edmondson of Davidson, North Carolina  in a playoff. After tying with a total of three-under par score of 213 for the Championship, Furuya birdied the first playoff hole to win, and earn an exemption into the 39th Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks, July 29 Aug. 1, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.

Furuya closed with a three-under par 69.

It feels great to come out here and get a win, said Furuya. I really battled and Im very happy to be going to the Junior PGA Championship and congratulations to Noah on his great week as well.

Hunter Dunagan of Martinez, Georgia finished third, after a final-round 68.

In the Girls Division, Rei Nakatani of Japan, overcame a one-stroke deficit heading into the finals nine holes to win with a three-day-total of 1-over par 217. Nakatani also earned an exemption into the 39th Junior PGA Championship.

My putting really helped me all week, especially on the back nine today, said Nakatani. I felt like I was in complete control and Im glad I can walk away with a win.

Maddy McDanel of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, finished second, five strokes back of Nakatani. Kayley Marschke of Suwanee, Georgia, finished third.

Walker Jones of Sumter, S.C., outlasted Mauro Stanchieri to win the Boys 12-14 Division.

Chris Sparrow, PGA head professional at Columbia was extremely pleased with the event.

It was a great time having the tournament here this week, Sparrow said, Im glad the weather held out and it looks like there were some great scores. The PGA Junior Series staff did a fantastic job and Im glad everyone enjoyed themselves.
